Burritos for the People is a free breakfast program that involves SCAR volunteers making and distributing burritos to the lovely folks of Spokane every Sunday morning from 9-10. This is a great way for community members to come together, volunteer their time, and make a positive impact on the lives of others. Through this program, SCAR is working to create a more equitable and just community for all.

RAD Team (Research & Data)

The RAD Team focuses on gathering and analyzing data to better understand the impact of racism in the community and to develop targeted strategies to address these issues. Through research and data analysis, the RAD Team works to raise awareness about the ways in which systemic racism affects various communities and to provide evidence-based recommendations for addressing these problems. The team is made up of volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are committed to using their skills and expertise to create positive change. The RAD Team program is an important part of SCAR’s broader mission to create a more equitable and inclusive community for all.

Writer’s Room

The Writer’s Room provides a supportive space for individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together and share their experiences, perspectives, and stories. Through the power of writing and storytelling, participants have the opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of racism and to promote a deeper understanding of the experiences of those who have been marginalized. The Writer’s Room is a safe and supportive environment where participants can express themselves freely and be heard. The program also provides an opportunity for writers to develop their skills, build relationships with others, and contribute to the larger community through the publication of their work. The Writer’s Room program is an important part of SCAR’s mission to create a more equitable and inclusive community for all.

Court Watch

SCAR’s Court Watch program involves trained volunteers attending criminal court proceedings and monitoring the actions of judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement to ensure that they are conducting themselves in a fair and just manner, particularly with regards to individuals from marginalized communities. The information gathered by the court watchers is used to hold the justice system accountable and to advocate for reforms that promote fairness and equity. Through its court watch program, SCAR is working to create a more just and equitable criminal justice system in Spokane.

Light Activism Team

The Light Activism Team is a volunteer-led initiative that focuses on raising awareness about the impact of racism in the Spokane community. This team uses creative and impactful activism methods to educate the public about the ways in which systemic racism affects various communities and to encourage action to address these issues. The Light Activism Team partners with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders to create public events, such as rallies, marches, and community gatherings, that bring attention to the issue of racism and promote diversity and inclusion. The team also creates educational materials and resources to help people better understand the impact of racism and how they can work to create positive change. The Light Activism Team is a crucial part of SCAR’s mission to create a more equitable and inclusive community and to promote understanding and acceptance of people from all backgrounds.
